Kevin Sueper
Pre-Theology I
St. John Vianney Seminary College
Hi, my name is Kevin Sueper. I’m the son of Daniel and Janice Sueper of Bellevue. I was raised in Bellevue for the first eighteen years of my life before I attended college for four years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. In Bellevue, we attended St. Mary’s, which is also where I was baptized and confirmed, and I attended their CCD program as well. In high school I started to get more involved with the parish by joining God Teens for a year and then participating in a Bible study that our youth minister put on for a year, but my faith really took off during my time in college. I have been incredibly blessed to have been a part of the Newman Center while I was in college. I was involved in the Fellowship of Catholic University Students, the Newman Center, and Phi Kappa Theta fraternity during my time there.
I'm excited about starting at Saint John Vianney seminary this year. I'm looking forward to growing closer to Our Lord and listening for His call for my life, participating in the sacraments, praying, growing in brotherhood with the other men, growing as a man, taking the courses, and learning about God and the Faith. I’m joining the seminary after thinking about the priesthood for sometime.
One of the things that first got me thinking about it was when the vocations director visited our parish when I was in high school and he invited those young men in the congregation to consider it. I was interested in the priesthood to differing extents during my time in college, and as graduation neared, I wanted to check into it. Things moved quickly from this point as I met with Father Hoesing, visited the seminary, and applied. I don’t know what God has in store for me, but I look forward to seeing where He leads me. If I have any advice, first I would say stay close to the sacraments and prayer. It’s about living in relationship with Christ. Focus on growing closer to Him first and foremost. Listen to Him. Love Him. Talk to a spiritual director, trusted friends, and the vocations director. Let them help you and let God lead you. Don’t be afraid and trust in God.
